Aluminum panels and PDR: trucks, EVs and what owners should know

F-150s, Teslas and newer SUVs use aluminum body panels. They can still be repaired paintlessly — with the right technique.

Why aluminum is different

Aluminum has less 'memory' than steel. Push it too fast and it stays stretched; work it correctly and it returns to shape beautifully. Repairs take more time, more heat management, and more passes than the same dent in steel.

That extra labor is why aluminum panels carry a surcharge on most PDR assessments — typically 25% or more per panel.

Which vehicles are affected

Ford F-150s since 2015, most Teslas, many Range Rovers and Audis, and an increasing number of hoods and deck lids across mainstream brands. If you are not sure what your vehicle is made of, we check during the assessment.

Choosing a shop

Not every PDR technician works aluminum. Ask directly, and ask to see finished aluminum work. A bad aluminum repair often has to go to conventional bodywork afterward, which defeats the entire point of PDR.
